It’s simple really… When the saints pray… stuff happens!

Here at YouthHOPE, one way in which we transform the lives of global youth is through internships. Every summer we send teams out to work with our Global Youth Workers and be a blessing to the ministries. This is a way for us to give encouragement to our youth workers and for their ministry to get a boost of energy. In about 5 weeks YouthHOPE will be sending out 15 college students and team leaders “to go into all the world” and work alongside our missionaries in 5 different countries. On May 28th, all of our interns will come together for training and preparation in Fort Myers, Florida and then on June 3rd, they will go out…to Bulgaria, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, and Southeast Asia to learn, serve and grow. This summer our interns will get a chance to learn and gain hands-on cross-cultural youth ministry experience while working with experienced Global Youth Workers and their ministries. Interns will develop and teach in an …

Young and Wild

March 26, 2012 by Aaron Leave a Comment
Joven-y-Alocada3-3-review

I was chatting with a friend in Chile the other day and he asked me if I had heard about the new Chilean movie that had just won the World Cinema Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival. It is called Joven y Alocada - Young and Wild (WARNING: the trailer for the movie is VERY graphic, please do not watch it if you think that you would be offended. The movie itself is rated NC-17 and is extremely sexually graphic, which is not uncommon for Chilean TV and film.). It is about the life of a young girl who grew up in an very conservative “evangelical” (a term used in Chile to describe the non-catholic or protestant Christians, which usually have a Pentecostal style) home. Her uncle was the preacher and her parents were very involved in the church. The thing is that their kids were just not vibing with this ultra conservative lifestyle. It was a very controlling and legalistic environment. The oldest daughter was kicked …

Transformational youth ministry-Malawi & Zambia Internship 2012

January 20, 2012 by Katie Leave a Comment
Youth training for Foundations for Farming in the village of Eg'chickeni.

At YouthHOPE, we have the privilege of working with awesome global youth workers throughout the world who have a heart to see the lives of youth transformed by God.  These people are in the trenches, working daily to bring the truth of Christ to the youth they interact with.  Some of the global youth workers that I am blessed to work with are the same wonderful people who were hosts to my intern team this past summer, Rutherford and Tsahai Banda in Malawi and Lloyd Ng’ambi in Zambia.  I was privileged with the opportunity to spend the summer working alongside these amazing servants in their ministries and I am excited about the opportunities in front of our intern team for 2012! Currently, it is estimated that 21% of the population in Zambia is made up of youth between the ages of 15-24.  These youth are facing many difficulties, including unemployment, lack of education, and HIV/AIDS.  Lloyd, Director of Youth, Synod of …

What’s Going on in Malawi?

June 12, 2011 by Kristy Leave a Comment
Bible Study

Muli Bwanji? (How are you?), Greetings from Team Malawi! We have arrived in Malawi just 2 days ago after a long couple days of traveling. The journey was met with little to no problems. It was a good experience as a team to venture into London for a few hours during our 9 hour layover at Heathrow. It was wonderful to be reunited with the Banda's as they welcomed us warmlyinto their home. It has taken us a while to recoup our energy and sleep and now we are doing well.  Laney, Amy, and Katie went into town yesterday with the national missionaries Rutherford and Tsahai Banda to get traditional clothing called "Zitenge" to wear in the village's. They visited the town market for vegetables and fruit which was a immersive experience.." Never experienced anything like that before. It was intimidating and a bit overwhelming but stretched me in a positive way."  - Laney Binkley The next two days we are preparing lessons for the youth …

Our Summer Interns are AMAZING!

June 10, 2011 by Aaron Leave a Comment
SE Asis Intern Team

I had the chance to spend a day with our intern teams at Pre-Field Orientation which took place at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida.  After having followed the process of planning and recruiting for the four YouthHOPE internships, it was great to finally meet the people that will be sent out as global youth ministry ambassadors.  I must tell you that I was very impressed with the quality of each and every one of the interns.  One of the reasons that I spent the day with them was to provide some training in the area of global youth ministry, to share the vision of YouthHOPE and also to teach on the subjects of worldview and culture.  They interacted well and seemed very eager to learn.  To me a "learner spirit" is one of the of important characteristics that we look for in our interns.  While they go to serve the people in the country of their internship, they also go to learn from them.  It is only with …

Thoughts about YouthHOPE’s 2011 Interns

April 2, 2011 by Aaron 1 Comment
intern

I was in church worshiping on Sunday and we sang the song With Everything.  The lyrics of the song really started to make me think.  The opening verse says: Open our hearts, To see the things That make Your heart cry, To be the church That You would desire. Light to be seen. That made me think about the 14 YouthHOPE interns preparing right now to go to the five countries where they will come alongside youth in some pretty challenging situations. Some of them will work with Haitian youth, many of whom are still living with post traumatic stress disorder from the earthquake that devastated their nation. Some will be showing the love of Christ to young people in SE Asia who were taken advantage of and abused. It is my prayer that as the interns go into these situations, that God would allow their hearts to hurt as His does and that that would spur them on to be the church that we are called to be. …

In some cases it is like teargas

February 13, 2011 by Adam 1 Comment
malawi post

Throughout the history of the world, youth have played a pivotal role in standing up to ungodly oppressive governments. Today we stand with our young brothers and sisters in Malawi as they fight for truth and all things good. Here is the link, and just in case you are at work, on a school’s network that blocks sites, or the man in Malawi has gotten to the internet to take it down, here is the text. “The Local Courts Bill, to be introduced next week, reads: "Any person who violates the atmosphere in any place so as to make it noxious to the public, to the health of persons in general dwelling or carrying on business in the neighbourhood or passing along a public way, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour." The bill will also attempt to deal with citizens who hinder the burial of dead bodies as well as people who pretend to be fortune tellers. Many feel that there are better issues that the government needs to discuss. Local Topsi …

Uncommon Leadership

December 20, 2010 by Kristy Leave a Comment
joshteaching

This past week, Drew and I had the opportunity to attend and teach at a leadership conference that Bob and Peggy Kuest put on for church pastors and leaders in Malawi. Bob and Peggy travel all around the world holding leadership conferences that are based on the book Bob wrote called Uncommon Leadership (you should check it out along with his new book Uncommon Relationships at amazon.com). I had the opportunity to teach on David, the ruler of righteousness and on the topic of boldness. Both topics were learning experiences for me. I studied about how David ruled in righteousness to his people, even when he sinned with Bathsheba. David truly was a righteous man and a leadership example we should follow. I also taught on boldness, which is something that I struggle with. …
