24/7 Global Youth Ministry

March 19, 2012 by Justin Leave a Comment
Matt and Jan King

We've all heard that youth ministry requires a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week commitment, but imagine this: You plan a youth event in your home.  You invite teens, make food, pick out games/activities and everything is set.  The youth arrive and have an amazing time.  Ministry happens, fun happens and relationships are built.  4 hours later, the party ends and none of the high school boys leave.  They don't leave because they live with you.  All. The. Time. In 1997, Matt and Jan King left their home in the US to go and serve at the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya, Africa. The current student body of nearly 500 includes more than 20 different nationalities. The families these students represent serve with 80 mission organizations in over 20 African countries. The King family committed to a 4 year term, and are still serving there 14 years later.  In addition to teaching, and raising 4 kids of their own, they are dorm parents to 22 …

Would you like to start a college in India?

street-kids-india

During the last year, we have been talking with several different ministries in India about partnership opportunities. There are some wonderful ministries that God is working through in India and this year we will be visiting some of them to learn and look for direction about moving forward. We are very excited since the need in India is so great. Only about 2% of the country is Christian, where more than half of the 1.2 billion people living there are under the age of 25 years old. There are few places where the global youth ministry opportunity is greater. As I was reading the news the other day, the following headline slapped me right in the face “In India, the challenge of building 50,000 colleges”. I read the article and learned that India is trying to solve the problem of the need to educate more than 100 million young people over the next ten years.  At the moment a mere 17% of their graduates are immediately …

Journey of Encouragement

December 12, 2011 by Katie Leave a Comment
Recruiting at Wheaton College

As I think of the 4 weeks of recruiting across 10 states, I’m able to look back over our time and be amazed by the provision of God and the incredible ways he encouraged us throughout the time. I want to thank those who were praying for us, it was evident that God was answering and blessing us in ways I didn’t even realize I needed. Throughout the 4 weeks we had the opportunity to speak with lots of college students who are on fire for God and have a desire to follow Him to the ends of the world, or next door, wherever He calls.  We got to listen as students shared their hearts, their passions, their dreams that God has planted in them.  (Let me tell you, I am blessed to do that as part of my “job”). One of the encounters that was particularly encouraging to me was at the last school we went to for recruiting, Berry College in Rome, Georgia.  By this time in the journey, Britney and I were definitely feeling some of …

No future without youth

March 6, 2011 by Aaron Leave a Comment
world's youth

I am teaching a class at Cincinnati Christian University on Global Youth Ministry.  It has really been a great experience and I have connected with some great students.  Just a short time ago, I had the chance to read through 24 book reviews of one of the most comprehensive studies of youth and adolescence from a global perspective The World's Youth.  It's not light reading as it is a very academic sociological study of what adolescence looks like in eight regions of the world. I'd like to share two quotes that impacted me and made me think about why and how we do youth ministry at YouthHOPE. "A society that does not pay attention to its youth has no future." pg. 303 One of the positive things (actually they known or stereotyped far more for the negative, but that's a different post) that youth are known for is creativity, passion and willingness to take risk.  They are the innovators and change agents in society.  There …
