Nego & Ellen Pierre-Louis - Chile

YouthHOPE has been involved in youth ministry in Haiti for more than a year now. About two months ago, we began planning how to partner with New Mission Systems International missionaries Nego and Ellen Pierre-Louis. Aaron Arnold (Executive Director) and Ryan Russell (Director of Training and Networking) were planning on traveling down to Haiti from January 26-29 to prepare and organize a youth pastor training project in Jacmel, Haiti. A little over a week ago, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit Haiti. The Earthquake devastated the country killing over 150,000 people and leaving much of the 8 ½ million people in Port-au-Prince in shock and needing immediate relief. Nego and Ellen work in Jacmel and much of the city was damaged. We decided on continuing with our plan to travel down to bring supplies, but it seemed wise to let those that have relief experience go down right away after looking closer at the situation. We still plan on going to Haiti later this year to come alongside our missionaries, and in the meantime, we are sending financial resources down. YouthHOPE still hopes to assess how we can partner in Jacmel to meet the needs of youth the best possible way. Please pray for wisdom as we decide how we can begin to help rebuild the lives of our Haitian neighbors.

Hello everyone,

How are you doing?? We are doing great here in Jacmel! People are freaking out in port au prince and some people are getting a little worried about how it is going to be like in Jacmel in the next couple weeks. The prisoners are all out because the prison has been destroyed, so do you imagine how the situation would be?

Anyway we count on God and we know that he will not let us down. We will be working on having the youth treating the water for as many people as we can, using some chlorine units that an organization from Iowa left us here in Jacmel, so that will be exciting to do, something to do anyway for now with the youth as we are still waiting on support to start helping the people of Jacmel.

We have two wonderful news; the first one is that today I(Nego) have baptized two of our youth and it was exciting to hear their motivation for getting baptized right now. They are grateful for what God has done for them, they are not killed by the earthquake while they could, so they wanted to get a "Soul assurance" If I want to translate exactly what they said. I am glad that I was the one baptizing them, and I am really proud that they didn't want to wait any longer but wanted to immediately do it today.

The second good news is that we could bring some small food relief to some of our youth who called us today and told us that they were starving, we cannot do to much for them right now, but at least we could bring them a bag of rice and a gallon of oil joined with a can of tomato paste and some maggi(bouillon cube) that was exciting to know that least they will be having something to eat until next week. On our way down we stayed at an orphanage and we talked to them and found out that they were running out of food for the day, so we knew that the next day they would have nothing to eat, so we also gave them the same thing we brought for the youth.

We thank God that he has helped us to be able to do this at this very moment, we are hoping to do more and we are waiting for what's happening next in Jacmel, as we know that things are just going to get worse and worse. Please keep praying for us and we encourage you to be a part of what's happening right now in Haiti by supporting.

Serving Him,
Nego & Ellen
