About Katie

"I am in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved, and I'm armed! Don't mess with me!" -Miss Congeniality

Yes, my sentiments exactly...uh, well, not the armed part maybe.

It’s simple really… When the saints pray… stuff happens!

intern

Here at YouthHOPE, one way in which we transform the lives of global youth is through internships. Every summer we send teams out to work with our Global Youth Workers and be a blessing to the ministries. This is a way for us to give encouragement to our youth workers and for their ministry to get a boost of energy. In about 5 weeks YouthHOPE will be sending out 15 college students and team leaders “to go into all the world” and work alongside our missionaries in 5 different countries. On May 28th, all of our interns will come together for training and preparation in Fort Myers, Florida and then on June 3rd, they will go out…to Bulgaria, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, and Southeast Asia to learn, serve and grow. This summer our interns will get a chance to learn and gain hands-on cross-cultural youth ministry experience while working with experienced Global Youth Workers and their ministries. Interns will develop and teach in an …

Youth Unemployment and a Challenge to the Church

March 21, 2012 by Katie Leave a Comment
youth-unemployment

Dozens of articles and reports by the UN, CNN, BBC, Unicef and others in the past few years have focused on the global youth unemployment crisis.  As the global economy continues to waiver and bend, millions around the world fight the effects of unemployment. According to a report by the International Labor Office, there were approximately 81 million unemployed youth between the ages of 15-24 at the end of 2009--the highest ever. Many governments and organizations are establishing programs and schemes to fight this trend, to give hope to a generation trying to find their place.  In the UK, the prime minister is planning an incentive that would give employers subsidies to employ 18-24 year olds for six-month periods.  Throughout the world, programs are starting up to train youth for small business ventures and entrepreneurship opportunities. The world seems to be taking notice of this global youth crisis, slowly, but …

Intergenerational Ministry in Action

February 22, 2012 by Katie Leave a Comment
circle

Recently, I’ve seen multiple blog postings, articles and sermons on the topic of inter-generational ministry in the church today.  There is a growing awareness that we need to rethink the way we interact within the body of Christ, the way we see unity and the way we work together.  In a recent lesson, Kara Powell, from Fuller Youth Institute, challenged the church to “be a circle.”  In a circle, we are able to see one another, face to face, and stand together, shoulder to shoulder.  The goal of inter-generational ministry is to connect all generations.  To take the wisdom of the older generation and pass it on to the youth.  To take the exuberance of the youth and reignite passion in the older generations.  To “encourage one another daily” as Hebrews exhorts... A few articles I’ve read have asked the question: How do we do inter-generational ministry?  It sounds great in theory and we believe in it, but how do we …

Transformational youth ministry-Malawi & Zambia Internship 2012

Youth training for Foundations for Farming in the village of Eg'chickeni.

At YouthHOPE, we have the privilege of working with awesome global youth workers throughout the world who have a heart to see the lives of youth transformed by God.  These people are in the trenches, working daily to bring the truth of Christ to the youth they interact with.  Some of the global youth workers that I am blessed to work with are the same wonderful people who were hosts to my intern team this past summer, Rutherford and Tsahai Banda in Malawi and Lloyd Ng’ambi in Zambia.  I was privileged with the opportunity to spend the summer working alongside these amazing servants in their ministries and I am excited about the opportunities in front of our intern team for 2012! Currently, it is estimated that 21% of the population in Zambia is made up of youth between the ages of 15-24.  These youth are facing many difficulties, including unemployment, lack of education, and HIV/AIDS.  Lloyd, Director of Youth, Synod of …

Journey of Encouragement

December 12, 2011 by Katie Leave a Comment
Recruiting at Wheaton College

As I think of the 4 weeks of recruiting across 10 states, I’m able to look back over our time and be amazed by the provision of God and the incredible ways he encouraged us throughout the time. I want to thank those who were praying for us, it was evident that God was answering and blessing us in ways I didn’t even realize I needed. Throughout the 4 weeks we had the opportunity to speak with lots of college students who are on fire for God and have a desire to follow Him to the ends of the world, or next door, wherever He calls.  We got to listen as students shared their hearts, their passions, their dreams that God has planted in them.  (Let me tell you, I am blessed to do that as part of my “job”). One of the encounters that was particularly encouraging to me was at the last school we went to for recruiting, Berry College in Rome, Georgia.  By this time in the journey, Britney and I were definitely feeling some of …

A little about myself…

Amy (1504)

I am from Colorado, right at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, one of the most beautiful places in the world… if you don’t believe me, just Google pictures of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak, you’ll see! I got my B.A. in International Studies from the University of Wyoming in 2009. As a high school kid, I was blessed to have many people who invested time and energy into my life, to teach me and encourage me towards what God had for my life. And as soon as the chance came, I wanted to reinvest into more youth. I volunteered with a youth ministry in Wyoming for almost 3 years and another in Colorado. These experiences have created a strong passion to see youth grow and be equipped and sent out with a fire and excitement for sharing Christ with others. I’ve felt God’s call to ministry since I was young, a freshman in high school, when I went on my first mission trip to Juarez, Mexico, and He has been carefully guiding my …
