You Are A Part of Our Team

YouthHOPE is different because you are part of our team. We live in a performance based society. What you do, and how well you do it seem to define your worth as a student and then as an employee. It seems like we are constantly being graded based on our abilities to perform. With that we can subconsciously bring home a personal report card at the end of the day. And what do we tend to focus on in that report card? Areas we fall short in of course. Growing up I always tried to fit the "American Dream" model. I wanted to perform the best and get the best “grades” in everything: school, work, and life. In this I let others define who I should be according to the standards they set. I wanted to be successful, but I thought in order to be successful in the eyes of others, I had to continue to meet their expectations. So often I would hear teachers and counselors tell me that good grades and doing a lot of good things looks great on …

Why I’m Excited About this Week

National Missionary Convention (17-20) – I first attended this conference as a Bible College student in 2006 with the sole purpose of finding a youth ministry internship outside of the States. I failed. That experience though created a greater passion within me for pursuing global youth ministry and eventually played a part in YouthHOPE’s creation of our internship program. I’m looking forward to sharing about our 5 global youth ministry internships, connecting with past interns, and recruiting more full-time global youth workers. National Youth Worker Convention (18-20) – This has been going down every year since 1970, so everyone in Youth Ministry already knows what it is all about, right? Everyone except me that is, I’ve never been. I’m excited YouthHOPE has a presence at the convention this year, and really excited for youth groups to start doing The Hunger Strike Challenge (here is one reason why). Extended …

God can use a piece of wood to save people

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to attend the 2011 Skate and Action Sports Conference at Calvary Chapel, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  The conference, founded by Toni & Uli Frallicciardi (Ramp48 skatepark), brought together over 100 leaders from skate ministries across the country.  The speakers for the conference were Pastor Alistair Begg, sk8 evangelist Brian Sumner, freestyle pro skater and preacher Tim Byrne, pro surfer Bryan Jennings, Calvary Chapel pastors:  Raul Ries, Chet Lowe and more!  The worship was led by the incredible Oceans Edge Band. Three months prior to going, I didn't even know about the conference.  I was overjoyed, however, when Habacuc & Liz Diaz-Ramos (global youth workers, founders of UrbanAction) asked me to attend and set up a booth on their behalf.  As I was planning for the conference, I wondered who would be a good person to have work the booth with me?  The first person that God brought …

Presentation Matters

Youth Ministry is beginning to think globally. Mission trips and awareness programs have become a staple. Your youth group though, do they care? Do the youth God has entrusted you to disciple share His same heart for the nations? If not, I suggest it may be your fault. Not because you aren’t hip to the times and aren’t putting the issue before them, but rather because how you are presenting the information. Check out this article recently released by Psychology Today. As Americans, being obsessed with productivity and efficiency you would assume we would be more willing to give to a cause that offers us the best return on investment. We’d be most concerned with our money impacting as many lives in as many ways as possible. But an article recently released by Psychology Today states otherwise. Their research shows that Americans are actually far more likely to respond to appeals made on behalf of just one person. My …

Is There Anybody Out There? – A Global Youth Cry

November 3, 2011 by Aaron Leave a Comment

The other day I was reading an electronic newsletter from some missionaries, Paul and Mary Triller that are supported by the local church that I attend.  I met them a couple years ago and have been following their ministry.  They are not specifically focused on youth ministry, but as their organizational goal states “empower and multiply a new generation of leaders to create movements to facilitate the expansion of God’s Kingdom,” they are intent on looking at the younger generation as a place to invest.  The following is something they wrote in their last e-newsletter: "There are about 52 orphanages in Moldova, they house approximately 6800 boys and girls. The most they can look forward to is being released after their 16th birthday with $30.00 and a bus ticket to 'home'. They are easy prey for human traffickers. They are sold into slavery. They are turned into prostitutes forced to perform sex acts from 30-50 times a day. …
