What would it look like for your youth group in the U.S. to have a global focus?
To see youth in America impacting youth on the other side of the world?
For your youth to develop relationships with kids their own age in Cambodia?
The Hunger Strike Challenge provides the perfect avenue for such endeavors.
Founded in 2010 by Jeremy, Justin and Jordan Willet, the Hunger Strike is a nonprofit ministry that exists to bring the love of Jesus Christ to those living in domestic and international poverty through advocacy, community development, short and long-term missionary support, youth programs, pastoral training, evangelism, and disaster relief. These are some of the same areas that YouthHOPE is about as well.
The theme verse for the Hunger Strike is: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9 Your youth group can take this scriptural mandate seriously by taking the Hunger Strike Challenge.
This is a FREE event where you challenge students to collectively fast from food, pray for 24 hours, all the while simulating poverty and bringing hope to the youth of Cambodia. Through devotions, service projects, teaching times, worship, water walks, poverty simulation “games” and more, your youth experience a taste of poverty. Through fund-raising for your event: your youth can bring change to Cambodia! Imagine sponsoring youth (through Food for the Hungry) in Cambodia for an entire year, and then getting packets in the mail with their pictures, and names. Then, throughout the year, your youth can develop a relationship with the youth you have already impacted through prayer, writing letters, and sending pictures. Imagine receiving letters in the mail throughout the year – and through one event, the Lord is glorified as your youth group now has a global focus.
