New Global Youth Ministry Partner in Zambia

Let me introduce you to Lloyd N’gambi. We connected with Lloyd this past year at the Urbana conference, as he was looking to join a missions organization that was focused on youth, and YouthHOPE was the only one. He grew up in Zambia and has developed a passion for transforming the lives of youth there. After getting a degree in theology, he went on to get a degree in Youth Ministry. To do so, he had to travel to the States because he couldn’t find a university within his country that offered the specialized training he desired. Lloyd is now the youth coordinator for the Central Church of Africa Presbytery (CCAP) in Zambia, which means he is in charge of youth development and programs for about 60 churches. Drew, Josh, Adam and I (Drew and Josh are YouthHOPE apprentices serving in Malawi until the end of November) recently spent a few weeks in Zambia dreaming and planning with Lloyd. Will Work for Money

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), there is an estimated 152 million young people who work but remain in extreme poverty. Youth in lower income countries are more vulnerable to suffer the impact of the unemployment crisis, where there is less social protection to provide for basic needs. The high rates of underemployment and unemployment could potentially result in a progressive loss of workers’ skills, exclusion of the unemployed from the productive economy, separated families due to searches for work, loss of hope of making a decent honest living, decreased social cohesion, and ultimately, dangers to national peace and stability. By the end of 2009, the number of economically active unemployed youth ages 15 to 24 had reached 81 million—the highest number ever. It is projected that the global youth unemployment rate will increase to 13.1 percent by the end of 2010. In order to break the cycle of poverty …
